Archiving and Digital Preservation Policy

The Crossroads of Future Technologies (CFT) is committed to the long-term preservation, accessibility, and integrity of its scholarly content. To ensure continuous and permanent access, the journal implements a robust, multi-layered digital preservation strategy through internationally recognized archiving services and internal safeguards.

1. Third-Party Archiving Systems

PORTICO

Readers of CFT can be confident that the articles they cite today will remain retrievable tomorrow. The journal deposits every published item—together with its metadata and supplementary files—into Portico, a not-for-profit preservation service governed by the international library and publishing community. These deposits are verified upon ingest and held in secure, geographically redundant dark storage that is wholly independent of the journal's hosting platform. If publication were ever discontinued, or the journal's website suffered a lasting outage, Portico's trigger-event mechanism would release the archived content to the scholarly community, preserving permanent access to the complete and authentic version of record.

PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN)

As an Open Journal Systems (OJS) journal, CFT is enrolled in the PKP Preservation Network. PKP PN automatically deposits and synchronizes published content across international preservation nodes, providing ongoing protection and access continuity.

2. Internal Backup and Redundancy

In addition to external archiving solutions, the journal’s publishing platform is backed up regularly on secure servers with redundancy protocols, routine monitoring, and update procedures to prevent data loss.

3. Persistent Identifiers and Metadata Deposits

All published articles are assigned stable Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) and complete metadata are deposited with Crossref and other indexing services to support long-term discoverability and linking.

4. Author Self-Archiving

Authors are permitted to self-archive the final published version of their articles in institutional repositories, subject repositories, and personal websites, provided that the full bibliographic citation and DOI link to the original publication in CFT are included.

5. Permanent Access Commitment

CFT remains committed to permanent open access. In the event of journal discontinuation, content preserved through the above archiving mechanisms will remain accessible in accordance with their preservation triggers and policies. The journal ensures:

  • DOIs remain resolvable

  • Metadata remains discoverable

  • Full-text content remains retrievable

  • The scholarly record’s integrity is maintained
