Archiving Policy

1. Purpose

The Journal of Business and Data Analytics (JBDA) is committed to ensuring that the articles it publishes remain permanently accessible, even if the journal ceases publication, changes publisher, or suffers a technical failure. This policy describes how the journal's content is preserved, how it can be accessed in the long term, and what authors may do to archive their own work, data, and code.

2. Digital Preservation

All published content of JBDA, including the full text of articles in every published format, figures, tables, supplementary material, and associated metadata, is deposited in two independent digital preservation services. Using two services in different technical and organizational settings ensures that the content survives the failure of any single system.

2.1 PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN)

The journal participates in the PKP Preservation Network, operated by the Public Knowledge Project, the developer of the Open Journal Systems platform on which the journal is published. The PKP PN is a distributed network built on LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) technology, in which multiple copies of each issue are held at independent institutions and continuously verified against one another. Content is deposited automatically as each issue is published. The PKP PN is a dark archive: preserved content is not accessible during normal operation and is made publicly available only if the journal is no longer available online.

2.2 Portico

The journal is also preserved by Portico, a community-supported digital preservation service used by libraries and publishers worldwide. Portico ingests the journal's content, normalizes and migrates it as file formats evolve, and holds it in a secure, geographically distributed archive. Portico is likewise a dark archive: content becomes accessible to participating libraries when a trigger event occurs, such as the publisher ceasing operations, the journal ceasing publication, the content no longer being available from the publisher for an extended period, or a catastrophic failure of the publisher's systems.

3. Preserved Formats

The version of record of each article is preserved in every format in which it is published, normally PDF and HTML, together with XML metadata describing the article. Supplementary material, including survey instruments, additional tables and figures, code listings, and reporting checklists, is preserved in the format in which it was published. Corrections, expressions of concern, and retraction notices are preserved and linked to the articles they concern, so that the published record, including any changes to it, remains complete.

4. Research Data and Code

JBDA encourages authors to deposit the data and code underlying their articles in a public repository that provides persistent identifiers and long-term preservation, such as Zenodo, the Open Science Framework, Dryad, Figshare, or an institutional repository, and to cite the deposit in the article's Data Availability Statement. Data and code deposited in such repositories are preserved by the repository under its own policies, independently of the journal. Where data or code are supplied to the journal as supplementary material, they are preserved with the article as described in Section 3, but the journal recommends repository deposit as the primary means of ensuring their long-term availability and citability.

5. Persistent Identification and Discovery

Each article is assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) registered with Crossref. The DOI resolves permanently to the article, and Crossref's registration of the article's metadata ensures that it can be located even if the journal's web address changes. If content is ever made available from a preservation archive rather than from the journal's website, DOIs are updated to resolve to the archived copy.

Article metadata is exposed through the journal's OAI-PMH interface, which allows libraries, aggregators, and indexing services to harvest and store records of the journal's content independently of the journal itself.

6. Publisher Backups

In addition to external preservation, the publisher, INATGI, maintains regular backups of the journal's website, database, and files on separate infrastructure, so that the site can be restored promptly after a technical failure. Backups are a short-term operational measure and do not replace the long-term preservation provided by the PKP PN and Portico.

7. Author Self-Archiving

Authors are encouraged to deposit their articles in institutional or subject repositories, including working-paper series such as SSRN, in addition to the journal's own preservation arrangements. As set out in the Open Access and Copyright Policy, authors may deposit the submitted, accepted, or published version of their article at any time, without embargo, under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. Authors should include the article's DOI in any deposited copy.

8. Continuity of Access

If JBDA ceases publication, all previously published content will remain available: the publisher will keep the journal website online for as long as practicable, and the content will be released from the PKP PN and Portico in accordance with their trigger conditions. If the journal is transferred to another publisher, the publisher will follow the principles of the Transfer Code of Practice, ensuring that the complete archive, the DOIs, and the preservation arrangements are transferred without interruption to access.

9. What Is Not Archived

The preservation arrangements described here apply to published content only. Unpublished manuscripts, rejected submissions, peer review reports, and editorial correspondence are not deposited in any preservation archive. They are retained by the Editorial Office only for as long as required for editorial administration and the handling of appeals or investigations, in accordance with the journal's confidentiality commitments.

10. Contact

Questions about the preservation of the journal's content should be addressed to the Editorial Office at editorial@inatgi.net.
