Publisher Transparency Statement
Publisher Transparency Statement
The Journal of Business and Data Analytics (JBDA) publishes research that businesses, analysts, and policymakers rely on to make decisions. A journal that asks its authors to be transparent about their data, methods, and interests must hold itself to the same standard. This statement explains, in plain terms, who owns and runs JBDA, how it earns and spends money, how it decides what to publish, and where readers and authors can verify each claim. It is written to meet the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing jointly issued by COPE, DOAJ, OASPA, and WAME, and it is reviewed by the publisher and the Editor-in-Chief every year.
1. What JBDA Is
Identity. The journal's only title is Journal of Business and Data Analytics (JBDA), Online ISSN 3068-3661. It has no print edition, no sister journal with a similar name, and no affiliation with any other publication of similar title. The journal is published in English and appears quarterly, in four issues per year; accepted articles are assigned to the next scheduled issue rather than published one by one.
Content. JBDA publishes original research articles, review articles, case studies, and expert commentaries at the intersection of business and data analytics. The Aims and Scope page describes the subject areas in detail. The journal does not publish advertorials, sponsored content, or articles whose publication has been promised to a third party.
Website. The journal is hosted on the Open Journal Systems platform at https://inatgi.net/index.php/jbda. Every policy referred to in this statement is published on that site, and the site is the only official source of information about the journal. The journal has no presence on manuscript-brokering or paper-mill platforms and does not authorize any agent to solicit manuscripts on its behalf.
2. Who Owns and Runs the Journal
Publisher and owner. JBDA is owned and published by INATGI, the Institute of Advanced Technology and Green Innovation LLC, a limited liability company registered in the Commonwealth of Virginia, United States (2807 N Parham Rd, Ste 320 #6105, Henrico, VA 23294; telephone +1 757-407-6474). INATGI publishes a small portfolio of open-access journals and has no ownership ties to any consultancy, software vendor, data provider, or business school.
Editorial leadership. The Editor-in-Chief is Lili Gai, PhD, of The University of Texas Permian Basin, USA. The Editor-in-Chief is supported by Associate Editors and an international Editorial Board whose members are drawn from economics, finance, accounting, marketing, operations, information systems, and data science, across institutions in North America, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. All members are listed with their affiliations on the Editorial Team page; the list is updated whenever membership changes, and no one is listed without their written consent.
Division of roles. The publisher provides the platform, the Editorial Office, indexing, DOI registration, preservation, and financial administration. The Editor-in-Chief and the editors decide what is published. The publisher does not read manuscripts under review, does not see reviewer reports, and does not take part in decisions on individual submissions. These arrangements are set out in the Editorial Structure and Governance Model.
3. How Decisions to Publish Are Made
Double-blind peer review. Every manuscript that passes initial screening is reviewed by at least two independent experts who do not know the authors' identities, and whose identities are not disclosed to the authors. The criteria reviewers apply, the timelines authors can expect (initial screening within 7 days, first decision within 4 weeks), and the handling of revisions and appeals are published in the Peer Review Policy and the Author Guidelines.
Editors as authors. Members of the editorial team, including the Editor-in-Chief, may publish in JBDA. When they do, the manuscript is handled by another editor who has no connection with the authors, the submitting editor is locked out of the manuscript's records, and the same double-blind review applies. Editorial team members are not exempt from rejection.
No fast track for payment. The journal does not offer expedited review, guaranteed acceptance, or any editorial service in exchange for money. The APC is invoiced only after acceptance, and editors do not know whether an author has applied for or received a waiver.
Conflicts specific to business research. Because much business analytics research uses data from, is funded by, or draws conclusions about identifiable companies, JBDA requires authors to disclose any employment, consultancy, equity, or data-access relationship with organizations connected to their study, and to state the role of any commercial sponsor in the design, analysis, or reporting of the work. Reviewers and editors declare and act on conflicts in the same way. Failure to disclose is treated under the Publication Malpractice Statement.
4. How the Journal Is Funded
Single revenue source. JBDA's only income is the article processing charge (APC) of USD 500 paid on accepted manuscripts. The journal has no subscriptions, no institutional subsidy, no advertising, no sponsorship, and no income from reprints or licensing. The APC, the PayPal payment process, the 30-day payment term, and the refund rules are published in the Publication Fee Policy before any author submits.
Waivers. Corresponding authors based in low-income economies receive a full waiver and those in lower-middle-income economies a 50% discount, by World Bank classification; commissioned expert commentaries are free of charge; and discretionary waivers are available for hardship. Waivers are decided by the Editorial Office alone and are recorded outside the editorial file.
What the APC pays for. Peer-review management, copyediting, typesetting, hosting, Crossref DOI registration, deposit in preservation archives, and indexing. The number of articles accepted in a given year is determined by the quality of submissions, not by revenue targets, and the publisher sets no acceptance quota for the editors.
Advertising and marketing. The journal carries no advertising. If that changes, an advertising policy will be published first, and advertising will never be placed next to or linked to specific articles. The journal's outreach is limited to issue announcements, calls for papers, and reviewer or board invitations sent to registered users and to researchers whose published work falls within the journal's scope; every such message identifies the journal and publisher, is sent from an inatgi.net address, and offers an opt-out.
5. What the Journal Claims and Does Not Claim
Indexing and rankings. Business and management journals are commonly assessed against ranking lists such as the ABDC Journal Quality List, the Chartered ABS Academic Journal Guide, and the Financial Times research rankings, and against indexes such as Scopus, Web of Science, and DOAJ. JBDA states on its website only the indexes and lists in which it is actually included, with the date of inclusion, and makes no claim to any ranking, impact factor, or acceptance rate that has not been independently assigned or that the journal cannot document. Authors who see an indexing or ranking claim about JBDA that does not appear on the journal website should treat it as unauthorized and report it to the Editorial Office.
Transparency of published research. The journal's commitment to transparency extends to its content. Every article carries statements on author contributions, funding, conflicts of interest, ethical approval, data and code availability, and the use of generative AI. Authors are encouraged to deposit data and code in public repositories, and where they cannot, the article states why. Reviewers may request data and code during review.
6. How the Published Record Is Protected
Open access and licensing. All articles are free to read from the day of publication under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. Authors keep their copyright and may deposit any version of their article anywhere, without embargo. The license is stated on each article page and in each PDF.
Preservation. The journal's content is deposited in the PKP Preservation Network and in Portico, two independent dark archives that will release the content if the journal or publisher ceases to operate. Each article has a Crossref DOI that will continue to resolve if the journal changes platform or publisher. Details are in the Archiving Policy.
Corrections and retractions. Errors are corrected and unreliable articles are retracted according to COPE guidelines, with a linked notice explaining what was changed and why. Retracted articles stay online, marked as retracted, so that the record is complete. The journal's procedures for investigating suspected misconduct, and the sanctions it applies, are set out in the Publishing Ethics statement and the Publication Malpractice Statement.
7. How to Verify or Question This Statement
Every claim above can be checked against a published policy on the journal website, against the ISSN Portal (ISSN 3068-3661), against Crossref metadata for the journal's DOIs, or against the participant lists of the PKP Preservation Network and Portico. Questions about any part of this statement, and reports of practices that appear to contradict it, should be sent to the Editorial Office at editorial@inatgi.net. Complaints about the publisher itself are handled by the Editor-in-Chief; complaints about the Editor-in-Chief are handled by the publisher; and anyone not satisfied with the outcome may refer the matter to COPE.
